  • Brianna Griggs

    Instructor

Brianna found Pilates during her time studying Athletic Training at Oregon State University. It was first integrated in her career as a means to help rehabilitate the athletes she worked with, but she soon discovered the many benefits Pilates provides for all individuals, and wanted to pursue teaching so that she could better promote Pilates to the rest of the community. Combining what she has learned from her degree in Exercise and Sports Science, and her experience as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, Brianna has come to refer to Pilates as "Cross Training for life.". Brianna's focus when teaching is to identify a person's needs, not only to help reach their fitness goals, but to improve movements in activities of daily living. When she isn't teaching you can find her snowboarding, rock climbing, eating, and snuggling her dogs and cat.

I relocated to Portland in 2017 with my husband, two kids and dog “Dusty the Husky.” I have been working in the fitness industry for almost 20 years with a background in group fitness and one-on-one training. I graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a BA in Visual Preforming Arts/Dance in 1999. I specialized in Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary. After graduating I worked in Hospitality while getting my Pilates certifications. I completed my mat certificate with Quantum Fitness out of Washington, DC in 1999 and my machine certificate with Core Dynamic Pilates out of Santa Fa New Mexico in 2006. I moved to Park City, UT in 2002 and began teaching at fitness clubs and private member communities. I co owned Studio BE Pilates in Park City for 10 years, there I trained private clients, partners and circuit classes. I also worked in the Wellness Center at the Montage Deer Valley. Since moving to Portland I have been working at Club Pilates. I am excited to continue training and helping others stay fit and healthy. I blend my background of dance, gymnastics, and fitness into my personal style of teaching Pilates, which is high energy and always ‘fun’, yet always staying true to the traditional principles of ‘The Method’. After teaching Pilates for almost 20 years I feel it is my love and career.

My Pilates career started because of a crisis -I was turning 30! Two days before my 30th birthday, I was up late one night watching TV and saw an infomercial with Mari Winsor Pilates. I saw the strength, beauty, and flexibility of Pilates bodies and I really wanted that for myself. By fate or accident, I met a Pilates instructor and she asked me to show her a short demonstration class leading to me becoming certified to teach at her studio. Living in San Diego, I realized that Mari Winsor had a studio in Hollywood and so I started training with her whenever I could as I fell more in love with the practice. I loved feeling and seeing my body get longer, leaner, and stronger and quickly the little doses of pain and soreness disappeared. I trained in New York, Denver, and Miami and found that being consistent with my own mat practice at home kept me in love and kept me strong. I continued teaching mat Pilates in group and private sessions for the next 15 years for fun as a supplement to my career. Two years ago, I discovered Club Pilates and recently made the good faith leap of making this my sole profession. Every class I find new inspiration in watching a student “get it”, seeing them do something that they didn't think they could ever have done. A student in the middle of my class recently made an announcement that it was her 50th birthday and she felt stronger and in better shape than she ever had. As the class roared with applause, she shed some tears of joy!!! That’s all I need to keep on going.

  • Alexis Griffith

    Instructor

After having surgery on her ankle at the age of 17, and compromising her knees running track in high school, Alexis found it difficult to find a low-impact fitness regime she could enjoy and relate to. She also found it hard to stick to any type of exercise she had tried in her late teens and early 20's. Finally, after hundreds of dollars of unused gym memberships, and feeling dissatisfied with the state of her body and mind as a whole, Alexis stumbled upon Pilates. Pilates not only changed her body in a way she never knew possible, it also gave her a new sense of self-confidence and a deeper understanding of what Joseph Pilates calls the mind-body connection. Pilates also helped her posture, which relieved her from chronic lower back pain that plagued her as a young adult. After experiencing these positive changes first hand, Alexis now dedicates her time as a Club Pilates certified instructor to helping others reach their external and internal goals. She believes that through Pilates, she can help others overcome the same challenges and fitness struggles that she once dealt with early on by making exercise and health relate-able. Alexis enjoys learning about all the different aspects of Pilates and now finds ways to incorporate other exercises into her workouts by using Pilates fundamentals. In addition to Pilates, Alexis loves cooking, surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, painting, writing, playing music and hanging with good friends.
